Kendal's Mint

Kendal’s Mint

If you’re attending The Lakes Comic Art Festival this weekend, you might come across one of these leaflets. To give visitors a taste of Kendal we’ve created a slab of Mint cake and unusual facts about the town. Shakespeare, Henry VIII, cobbled yards, England’s highest climbing wall and the town’s festivals are all featured on the leaflet. The project was commissioned by Kendal BID to promote the town to a wider audience and specifically the international visitors and media who attend The Lakes Comic Art Festival.

WDAD Advertising

WDAD Website

We worked with WDAD Advertising to develop their WordPress Theme website. The clean design and large hero image works well for WDAD, a London based recruitment advertising agency. The homepage features a stylish, branded video; this quality and attention to detail is continued throughout the site and extends to the branded Google map pointer on the contact page.

Eden Local Plan

Eden Local Plan

The Eden Local Plan branding is receiving very positive feedback from Eden District Council. The Council’s brief was to make the Eden Local Plan more engaging and to encompass issues such as housing, transport infrastructure and jobs.

The Eden Local Plan covers Eden District for the years 2014 to 2032. The branding launched the Local Plan ahead of public consultations throughout the District. Public engagement is essential in order to ensure the council is making the right decisions for the future of the District.

The illustrative approach meant the branding could be Eden specific and highlight the Local Plan’s main focus. Eden’s bridges, lakes and castles are all featured in the illustration along with sandstone houses, factories and roads. The river Eden is part of the Council’s branding and is a focal point within the District. The river forms the letter ‘E’ for ‘Eden’ and this is at the centre of the artwork; depending on the usage, the ‘E’ can be used on its own, as a simple logo, or as part of the illustration.

Tax Rebate Services

Tax Rebate Website

Tax Rebate Services help small businesses and the self-employed with their accounting and tax issues. We designed and developed a bespoke, responsive WordPress website to improve the site’s user experience and increase conversion rates.

The design is refined and simplified to focus on the call to action, which is to either complete a tax form or contact Tax Rebate Services. Content is concise and additional information can be accessed through a click and reveal action. This action is also used within the tax forms so the forms are easier to follow and to complete.

Banks Group - corporate cycle ride

Cycle Event

The beautiful Northumberland countryside was the backdrop to our corporate cycle challenge. It was the second year that Designworks had been invited to the Virgin Money Cyclone by The Banks Group.

With over 30 riders taking part in The Banks Group’s team kit, it highlights the fact that cycling is increasingly popular form of meeting new people and networking.

The event also helped raise money for Debra. Miles Crossley, a Banks Group employee, explains the significance of the fundraising:

“Debra represents a cause really close to my heart involving supporting families and research into a cure for a condition which my son, Mason, suffers from called EB (epidermolysis bullosa). A rare skin condition which means he gets injured and blistered with the slightest knock. I am confident in Masons lifetime, Debra will help identify a cure for this life changing skin conditions. A couple links below to some articles directly on Mason which have made the press:

Within the site there is additional functionality which features a 24/7 transport quotation service, freight tracking service and promotional videos.

Holiday Cottage Cumbria

Holiday Cottage Website

Holiday Cottages Cumbria’s website has been redeveloped, it’s now mobile friendly and major improvements have been made to the design, usability and SEO.

The design now features a large image slider containing photos of the cottages and Lakeland vistas. Six smaller images sit under the slider and link through to targeted search terms, such as ‘Romantic breaks’, ‘Luxury cottages’ and ‘Pet friendly cottages’. Above the website’s fold are links to ‘Check Availability’, ‘Late Availability’ and ‘Lakeland Photos’. These three pages are key to converting browsers to bookers and link directly to online bookings, seasonal special offers and beautiful images of the Lake District.

In terms of SEO and usability, the site contains an interactive map of Cumbria and 50 must visit places in the Lake District. Both these pages enhance and increase the site’s content and are an important part of the client’s SEO strategy.

Here’s the client’s feedback: “I’m absolutely chuffed to bits with the work we have achieved together. As always the graphics and colour pallets used are excellent. I now think I have one of the best web sites I’ve seen anywhere. Thank you Designworks, once again!”

Morecambe Bay Toolkit

Morecambe Bay Toolkit

The Morecambe Bay Toolkit has been developed to help visitors discover the special character of Morecambe Bay. It provides businesses around the Bay with a greater understanding of the different elements that make up this special character, from its spectacular landscape and views, its geology, rich nature, deep heritage and varied traditions. The toolkit helps to celebrate the area’s uniqueness and provide information to develop visitors’ perceptions of Morecambe Bay as a destination.

We created the Morecambe Bay Sense of Place Toolkit and Day Out Itineraries for ten locations. The design uses a scrapbook style approach and complements the existing Morecambe Bay branding. Mapping is an important element and we illustrated maps for various key areas.

Elterwater Hostel - WordPress website

Elterwater Hostel

Elterwater Hostel is a newly independent, former YHA hostel. It is perfectly situated in the picturesque village of Elterwater, at the heart of the Langdale Valley in the English Lake District.

Designworks worked closely with the hostel’s new owners to create the brand and website for Elterwater Hostel. The logo features the famous Langdale range and the waves represent the lake of Elter Water. The site is built in WordPress using Responsive Web Design so it resizes for mobile and tablet devices. Focal points within the page design are online booking, contact form and Trip Advisor feed. These focal points offer routes to the essential areas of the site: book, contact and review.

Designworks website

Designworks’ Website

We’ve refreshed our website design and development to make it more user-friendly and to improve the responsive experience. Social media and contact details are featured clearly at the top of the page. The navigation drop-down provides direct access to the pages’ content; the drop-down contains, intro text, portfolio thumbnails and a contact form. This provides browsers with access and an overview of the entire website and encourages a higher click-through rate.

The Responsive Web Design has been improved and now all images are displayed whether on desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile. Mobile phone navigation has been simplified to make it easier to click through.

The contact form has been repositioned so it’s displayed in the side column on all pages. This has had a noticeable impact and we’ve experienced an increased usage of the contact form now that it is more accessible.

Banks Group at the Virgin Cyclone

Virgin Money Cyclone with Banks Group

Designworks’ Director, Rory Black, cycled the Virgin Money Cyclone last Saturday as part of the Banks Group team. The Virgin Money Cyclone is part of The North East Cycling Festival which was created in 2007 to encourage as many people as possible to get out on their bikes, get fitter and enjoy the countryside.

The Banks Group invited 18 riders along to take part in the 63 mile route. “It was a fantastic event,” said Rory “quiet roads and spectacular scenery. Cycling is a great way to socialise and provides an informal networking opportunity.”

Cycling is often referred to as the new golf. According to The Economist many believe cycling is better than golf for building lasting working relationships, or landing a new job, because it is less competitive and more about team work.

Predator Experience - Identity

Predator Experience Identity

Predator Experience has an illustrated identity for its innovative bird of prey falconry days. We used a photograph of Sapphira, Predator Experience’s White-tailed Sea Eagle, as a basis for the illustration. The illustration is detailed but it can be broken down into separate colours for spot colour printing on signage or for embroidery. The eagle complements the illustration of the wolf which is used for the Predator Park identity.
